The HINDMAN family being researched originated in Lancashire. The main line so far is based around the element of the family which moved to Portsmouth, Hampshire with the Royal Navy. As with many other families the HINDMAN family gave up young men in WW 1. In the military documents section you can see how this family have served for many generations at sea and also under the sea, unfortunately losing a life in the Dardanelle's while serving in one of the earliest submarines in the Royal Navy. The origins in Lancashire look like they could have been cotton mill owners at one stage but a positive link is yet to be established.
