The Harvey family have been part of agricultural history of the Isle of Wight for 200 years.  Farming predominantly in the West Wight area.  Some farms towards the middle of the Island were worked namely, Merstone Farm.  This being one of the most profitable farms on the island in the mid 19th Century.  Stories abound about royal connections at this time, all of which need substantiating!  The Harvey family like many others gave up many of its young men during both world wars, evidence of their bravery is included in the military documents section. When the 19th Century came to an end jobs became difficult to come by on the Isle of Wight.  This led to migration to many parts of the world.  Many young men and women from the Isle of Wight left for Canada, some ending up fighting in WW 1 under the Canadian flag.
